I started my love affair with horses at the age of 9. It quickly grew into a passion of mine. I worked many years with the Girl Scouts of America in their equitation department absorbing horsey knowledge like a sponge and riding every chance I could get! I remember being about fifteen years old grooming a horse and saying to my instructor, "I am going to help horses with my life." I had no idea of the immense importance that this statement would echo some ten plus years later.
After high school I moved to Orlando, FL and interned with Walt Disney while in college. Upon returning home I worked with Habitat for Horses and found my "calling" so to speak. I currently work at an animal emergency hospital and a large animal day practice. I feel like everything I have been taught in my life has led up to this moment! Creating our Crossfire family has been the ride of my life.

I started riding when I was four years old and ever since horses have been part of my life. I took a brief (if you can call 10 years brief) break from horses and riding while going to college, working and earning two Master's degrees. During the day I work for another fantastic cause at Shriner's Hospital and I'm spending my non-work hours volunteering with Crossfire Equine Rescue and hanging out with horses and their humans.

I am a HUGE animal lover! I have always had an interest in horses since I was 10yrs old. I remember going with my mom to the equestrian center every weekend to see the beautiful horses and watch the shows. When I turned 13 I started going to the local barn by my house where you could rent horses by the hour and I was there every weekend to ride. One of my greatest wishes was to one day own my own horse.
My horse Titan was an owner surrender at Crossfire and I cant get enough of him. I wish we could stop horse slaughter and auctions. I couldn't imagine one of my horses ending up in the wrong hands because they are so important to our family. I am also the mother of a beautiful 12 year old daughter who has became quite the rider!
If I could STOP all animal abuse I would! People don't understand that animals all have hearts, they love, they feel and they understand and to know they are thrown into the wrong hands at the fate of others rip my heart open. So being able to volunteer with Crossfire Rescue and see the faces of the new parents of these beautiful animals is the best feeling. I end up going to our barn and tell Titan and Snickers we did it again, we provided a forever loving home to another homeless horse!
Attending Vet: Kris Anderson
Kris graduated from Texas A&M University in 2005 with a BS in Animal Science and minor in Genetics. In 2009, she graduated from Texas A&M's College of Veterinary Medicine, and returned to Galveston County. In school, she heavily pursued Equine Medicine, with an emphasis on Dentistry. Post-graduation, she continues to do so, in order to keep up to date on new treatments, far exceeding the state required minimum of CE hours each year.
In her spare time, Kris enjoys helping Crossfire with our rescue work and the sport of Endurance, both as a rider and as a veterinarian, giving her a unique perspective on the athletic horse.
Attending Farrier: Richard Zewe
I started Trimming my own horses back in early 2008, under the direction of a very good local Trimmer by the name of Rachael Coggins. Rachael is a certified Strasser Trimmer, but changed course from Dr. Hiltrud Strasser's more aggressive methods, taking the best of Strasser, and combining that with what she eventually learned from Trimmers like Pete Ramey. Rachael has trimmed horses for over Ten Years using this Natural Method. I still go out and trim with Rachael and have also trimmed with Eddie Drabek and Harbes Trimming as well. I believe that you must learn from as many different points of view as possible, because there is no one way to trim every hoof out there.
I'm not in this just to make money. I love doing this! I love the horses and I love the type of people that I meet while trimming.
